How to Ask for Tithes
- 1). Explain the biblical basis of tithing. Use references from the Old and New Testaments such as Nehemiah 10:38, Psalm 96:8, Malachi 3:10, Galations 6:7-9 and Luke 21:1-4.
- 2). Encourage church members to tithe out of their own desire to serve and worship God, not out of obligation. Remind them of 2 Corinthians 9:7 which says: "Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver."
- 3). Urge your members to view budget and spending information. Make sure that the church's financial records are readily accessible to members. Unfortunately, too many unscrupulous individuals have mishandled money in churches, which makes many people skeptical to give. Financial accountability can combat this skepticism.
- 4). Refrain from asking for tithes every single service. People grow deaf to nagging requests for money. You might want to plan to deal with the subject of tithing only a few times a year.
