The emperor penguin is one of the most familiar penguin species and is often depicted in movies. Their elegant coloration and large size (only the king penguin is larger) makes them even more noticeable, and their colonial behavior and dedicated parenting make them all the more appealing. Breeding on the Antarctic ice, these birds form a group huddle to share body heat and survive one of the harshest climates on earth, but the melting of that ice through climate change threatens their nesting colonies.
