Tomorrow Vision Goal Setting

105 8
The daily onslaught of the unexpected, the delays in getting this done, putting off for tomorrow what should be done today seems to be more the norm than the exception. Many people want a new life, a resonating purpose or just a way to get back to zero. But how do you do it?

The dreams that we have been force fed will remain a dream until we take personal responsibility for our actions. The mantra that should be forever present in our minds is taking the time to figure things out for yourself. Figuring things out for yourself is the only personal freedom anyone has. But you have to use it so that you can reconfigure your life to your specifications.

Let's take the rebellious thirty-somethings who seem to think the world owes them a cell phone, an SUV, the latest Wii, a cushy job and whatever demands they have at the moment. They look around and wonder why others seem happy, content with their finances, satisfied in their jobs and seemingly living the life they want.

The thing they don't see is the sacrifice, the discipline, the willingness to extend today so that tomorrow will be even better. These attitudes render themselves progressively towards the life they dream about. Its one step at a time, one action completed at a time and one more rung on the ladder of success they are climbing, hand-over-hand at a time.

I become so impatient with people who can't seem to get their priorities straight, yet wonder why their lives are so upside down. It is true we live in a seemingly upside down world, but that doesn't mean you need to participate.

Here are a couple of strategies that can get you going in the right direction if you suffer from society overload.

1. Get rid of the cell phone. We consume many hours unnecessarily communicating useless and non-productive gibberish. There are a set number of hours in the day and if you use them in a non productive way then something else has to suffer. I am not advocating throwing the cell away, just minimizing its use for essential activities so you gain time for the more important aspects of life.

2. Get a hold of your finances. If you don't talk about money, develop a relationship with it and use it wisely then you'll likely not have any when you think you should. This requires the simple action of setting aside time to focus on your finances, pay the bills, stop the unnecessary spending, and read the books so you can learn and implement the strategies that will get you to where you want to go. Readers are leaders in the world and in your own life.

3. Get some leverage into your being. What I mean is explore who you are, what is important and set a goal to go after it. It's okay to have material things. But don't let them overrule your life to the point that the thing becomes more important than the problem it solves in your life. You don't need approval from others; you only need the satisfaction of knowing that you are headed to where you have chosen to go.

Eagles soar.

Catfish skim the bottom for leftovers.

Take a look at every area of your life and make a plan for what you want it to look like. Start with a library card. All the information you need to make that leap into the level of life you desire can be found in the pages of a book on the library shelf. Spend time alone reading, contemplating and figuring things out.

You can be whatever you choose to be, so go forth and become the man or woman you dream of becoming. It may happen tomorrow or maybe twenty years from now. Regardless, time is irrelevant. But your life is not.
