2004 Kentucky Derby Entries
DERBY RESULTS HERE - Smarty Jones wins!
The final line-up for the Derby is now set and a full field of 20 horses has been entered. Since the field was capped at 20 in preference of graded stakes earnings several horses had to be eliminated, including Rock Hard Ten who was favored by many people. There is no also eligible list for the Kentucky Derby, so no additional horses can get in the race at this point.
Post positions have been selected and morning line odds assigned with The Cliff's Edge a narrow favorite at 4-1 over Smarty Jones at 9-2.
Below is the list of entrants in post position order odds until they become available. Be sure to click the link on each horse's name to view full info, stats, and a photo where available. A star next to the dosage index indicates a dual qualifier. Now that the entrants are know, more profiles links should be added over the next day or two, so check for updates on your favorite horses. As always, the distance is 1 1/4 miles with a purse of $1 million and all horses carry 126 pounds. The list of all the contenders, including those who didn't make it in the race, is here.
Update: Wimbledon scratched with a leg injury. St. Averil has also just been scratched due to sore feet. This means the one and two holes will say empty and the horses in posts 1 to 8 will move over to fill the gaps while posts 10 and outward will remain in the same places. Program numbers will remain unchanged.
