Nursing Scope & Standards
- The ANA was established in 1911; they are responsible for establishing the code of professional nursing. The group has made advancements in the nursing industry so nursing practices have gained worldwide recognition and respect.
- All nurses must treat patients equally, showing the same amount of care and respect to everyone receiving treatment. Regardless of diagnosis, ethnic origin or economic status, nurses are not permitted to display any kind of emotion that will affect the level of care bestowed on a patient.
- Regardless of any ethical dilemmas that may arise as a nurse attempts to balance an obligation to the patient, family and community, the nurse's primary responsibility is to the patient. Whatever conflicts may arise, the nurse must insure the patient's well-being is maintained as well as preserving their professional integrity.
