    Chicken Nest Salad

    • Chicken nest salads are healthy and easy to create. One large salad may be made and shared between a number of children, or a small version can be created for one child. The salad consists of a nest of shredded lettuce and spinach. Diced carrots may also be used. Sprinkle these foods with shredded mozzarella cheese. Place grilled chicken bites and a hard-boiled egg on top of the cheese.

    Apple Slices

    • Apple slices are often paired with peanut butter for snacking where children are concerned, giving them a nutritious snacking option. Apples slices may be paired with other foods as well, such as cheese. Try spreading cottage cheese on each apple slice. Mozzarella cheese wedges also go well with apple slices.

    Vegetables and Peanut Butter

    • Peanut butter, a good source of protein, may also be paired with vegetables. Use regular peanut butter, or mix some with plain yogurt, to create a dip for the vegetables. Celery and carrot sticks are favorites for this snack, though other vegetables, such as broccoli and cauliflower florets, make good choices as well. You can also fill celery stalks with peanut butter for a tasty, healthy snack. Just cut the stalk into three or four sections, and fill.

    Baked Tomatoes

    • Cut tomatoes in half, and place on a greased baking dish so that the cut sides are facing up. Sprinkle shredded cheese and crushed, dried herbs on top of the tomatoes, and warm in the oven until the cheese is melted. Sliced cheese is also an option, cut to size.

    Lettuce Sandwiches

    • These snack "sandwiches" are made by using lettuce leaves in place of bread or tortillas. Place a slice of cheese and a slice of sandwich meat on each leaf, then add other desired fillings. Thinly sliced zucchini or cucumber, as well as diced tomatoes, all work well and add to nutritional value. Sandwich pickles can also be added. Roll the "sandwiches" and serve.
