Preparing Pools For Winter
Unless you like to swim in freezing waters, which is very unlikely, you will probably not be using your pool during winter months.
Moreover, unless you like cleaning dirty pools so much, which is just as unlikely, you will probably want to properly close your pool for winter.
Here's are some guidelines to properly close your pool for the coming winter season.
Clean Before You Close One reason for closing your pool is to keep it clean for the duration of winter and so you can enjoy it immediately in the spring.
Remove any dirt and debris in the water.
Clean the filter and the skimmer basket as well.
Don't forget to scrub your pool floor all wall tiles as well.
Thoroughly clean it the same way you regularly do.
Remove, Clean and Store All Pool Toys and Accessories Pool toys should be stored properly and kept in warm rooms.
The extreme cold could cause the toys to get brittle.
This is to make sure that they last longer.
After all, we will want to play with them again in the spring.
Tubes and hoses should be detached from the pool, dried and stored as well.
Residual water on hoses may freeze and cause it to crack and tear.
Make sure to keep the drainage open as well to allow moisture to escape.
Moisture stuck in the filter will freeze and cause cracks on the base of the filter.
Add all Necessary Chemicals to the Water A dose of superchlorinator and algaecide should be added to the water to prevent algae growth.
We won't want our pool waters turning green when we re-open it.
Some anti-freeze should also be added in order to prevent the water from, well, freezing.
Frozen water expands; it may severely damage your pool floor and walls.
Cover it Up We don't want snow and other debris to mess up what we just worked so hard to clean.
Winter covers alone though are not enough.
Winter Covers will need help from other pool products in maintaining your pool.
First you will need air pillow.
The air pillow in placed at the center of the pool, under the cover.
It will give the winter cover a bulge at the center.
This will minimize the areas on the cover where water and other debris may accumulate in.
It also supports the cover in carrying the weight of debris that will accumulate on the cover.
Next, the winter cover needs to be secured using water tubes.
Water tubes are tubes filled with water that are attached to the edges of the pool cover in order to secure the cover in place.
It may seem a lot, but all these things are necessary in maintaining the condition of your pools.
In the long run, neglecting to do these these things will eventually cost you a lot more time, money and effort than if you just did.
