How to Use Averages in Evaluations
- 1). Set up your grade book or computer grading system with four categories: homework, quizzes, tests and exam.
- 2). Determine which assignments will fit into each category. For example, daily work, journal writing and reading assignments all fit into the homework category, while book reports, quizzes and group projects all go into the quiz category and tests and individual large projects go into the test category.
- 3). Add up each category at the end of each term and divide each category by the number of assignments in that category. This will give you an average for each section.
- 4). Take the numbers from each section and add those together. This will include one number from the final exam, final test or final project for the term. This will give you four numbers.
- 5). Add the four numbers together and divide the total by four. This will give you an average for the term. Use the numbers from each term and add those together, including an end-of-semester or end-of-year final exam. Divide the total by the numbers added together. If you have semesters you might be adding two numbers together plus a final exam and dividing by three. If you have trimesters the number of scores you have will be more.
