How to Make a Water Fountain for a Backyard
- 1). Dilute the PVA glue with an even amount of water. Paint the inside and outside surface of the terracotta bowl with the glue. Allow the bowl to dry.
- 2). Apply a generous amount of silicone sealant to the drainage hole. Allow to dry.
- 3). Drill a hole near the bottom of the bowl for the pump cord.
- 4). Starting in a small area inside the bowl, spread some tile adhesive on the bowl. Push the broken tile pieces into the adhesive. Use tile clippers to cut any of the mosaic pieces into smaller parts. Place glass beads, marbles and mirror pieces in between the tile pieces in a desired design. Continue working in small sections until the inside of the bowl is thoroughly covered. Allow the bowl to dry.
- 5). Use a clean sponge to push grout into the spaces between the tiles and other pieces. Apply a generous amount of grout over the entire surface and wipe the excess away with a clean cloth. Do not cover the cord hole with grout. Allow the grout to dry.
- 6). Polish the tile, marbles and other mosaic pieces with a soft cloth.
- 7). Place the fountain pump in the dish and thread the cord through the hole. Apply silicone sealant on either side of the hole to seal it. Allow the sealant to dry.
- 8). Fill the bowl with more mosaic pieces and large marbles to cover the pump.
- 9). Place the desired fountain head on the pump. A small rolling bubble is an excellent effect. Plug the fountain pump cord into a grounded electrical outlet. Adjust the water volume so that the fountain is not spraying outside of the bowl.
