Forbidden Fruits Are Always Tempting
An Indian news An Inspector General of Police - a three star General - of an Indian state, was keen to upgrade his educational credentials.
He had studied for LLM - Masters in Law.
He was appearing for its exams, when he was caught red-handed, copying from a chit, by an invigilator - who was not aware that his catch was one of the top ranking officers of the state police.
God punishes us for our sins, even if we escape societal punishment for our crimes.
It was a big news, on national TV channels.
How will he face his family - wife, children, and parents? How will he face his junior staff? He needs a thick skin, as humiliation is not easy to live with; at this stage of one's career and age.
We all have to pay the price for our sins.
Even if, he gets scot-free, due to legal loop holes or lack of evidence, he is already punished by God.
He has lost his respect in the family, his workplace, and the society.
He would have been better without a LLM degree.
Even if he is a thick skin person, he would be cursing himself over his stupidity.
If he is a gullible, honest person who got tempted to do copying just once, and is not thick-skinned, he is vulnerable to committing suicide.
Conduct of exams in the good old days in US In the first half of 20th century, the invigilator, distributed the question papers and went out, as supervision was not required.
If he had stayed in the hall, students took it as an insult, as it implied the invigilator doubted their integrity.
Then the students used to chant: 'Shame, shame!', till the invigilator left the exam hall.
It was like a fairy tale to us in India.
India and the US In 21st century, the US students have maintained the moral turpitude, by and large.
But there is a decline, from its benchmark, of early 20th century.
There was a recent news of an assisted copying racket by 'benevolent' teachers in a state in US.
Thus now US citizens are more natural in their behavior.
A human being is an imperfect entity, with flaws in character.
The students and teachers in US are still in upper quartile of excellence in honesty and hard work to acquire knowledge.
Scandinavian citizens are the leaders for observing humane values and Godly principles, in their lives.
All is well there, but for their leadership in divorce rate too.
In India and few other countries, the students' priority is in getting a degree certificate and not in acquiring the knowledge.
There are ways to get a degree with better marks: the leaked question paper, when money changes hands; copying shamelessly during the exams, assisted by invigilators, and policemen on duty, who look in other directions; and finally contacting the examiner, for favor of checking the answer book in a lenient manner, for some consideration.
There is another bizarre creative idea.
Why not to get a degree certificate printed from a printing press, for a small consideration? Shocking and unbelievable! Godly traits will emerge winners, in the end.
Amen!
