    • 1). Find the memory card slot on your printer and remove the memory card. Removing the memory card ensures that your printer will continue to recognize all file formats and keep any customized settings you may have set up. Different model printers have memory card slots in various locations. Refer to your printer's user manual for help locating the memory card slot.

    • 2). Use the menu function and arrow keys on your printer to scroll to the automatic clean function. The printer's LCD screen will display a message that says "Clean the print cartridges?". Select "Yes" and allow the printer to go through its automatic cleaning process. After cleaning, the printer will automatically print a test page.

    • 3). Review the printed test page. The LCD screen will display "continue to 2nd level of cleaning?". If there are any streaks or dots on the test page, the cleaning is not finished. Select "Yes" and allow the printer to continue to clean the HP inkjet cartridges.

    • 4). After the cleaning is complete, the printer will automatically print out another test page. Review the test page. If there are no streaks or dots, cancel the cleaning function and return the printer to normal use. Your HP inkjet cartridges are now clean. If necessary, repeat these steps to clean your HP inkjet cartridges.

    • 5). If the automatic cleaning does not work and a manual cleaning is needed, remove the HP ink cartridges and use a cotton swab dipped in distilled water to clean the face and edges of the print cartridge. Squeeze any excess water out of the cotton swab first. Do not attempt to clean the bottom of the print cartridge or the copper contacts as this can result in the failure of your HP inkjet cartridges.
