      Early childhood education wouldn't run as smoothly without rules and regulations. Child care regulations protect children from harm and give parents a guide to appropriate care. The state of Georgia assumes responsibility for regulating child care in Georgia, but rules and regulations will vary from state to state.     Activities

    • All public early childhood education centers must provide planned programming for the students on a daily basis. The selected activities should promote the social, physical, cognitive, emotional, language and literacy development of each child, and lesson plans should reflect such development content areas. There should also be a variety of activities that include outdoor as well as indoor play, quiet and active play, and free choice and instructor-led activities.

    Admission and Enrollment

    • Children cannot be accepted for or continue enrollment if the center staff determines their services cannot and do not protect the health and safety of children. Likewise, children cannot be admitted for enrollment without complete and correct enrollment records.

    Children's Records

    • Each child enrolled in a center must have an up-to-date file containing identifying information such as the child's name, birthday, sex and address, as well as their parents' names, addresses and phone numbers. The file should also include emergency contact information, health care information, allergy records and immunizations.

    Criminal Records Check

    • All directors and employees of a child care center must complete and file a criminal records check along with their employment or license application before working in the center. If a criminal records check is unsatisfactory, they cannot seek employment with a child care center as a director or staff member.
