    • 1). Clean the area around your eye with a gentle facial soap and water. Pat the area completely dry with a clean facial cloth.

    • 2). Apply flesh-colored liquid foundation around the entire eye. Gently pat the foundation underneath the eye and on the eyelids. The foundation acts as a primer and helps prevent the makeup from smearing or smudging.

    • 3). Dip the tip of a cotton swab in black eye shadow. Gently dab the cotton swab underneath your eye. Dip the tip of your cotton swab in the shadow once more. Dab the eye shadow onto your upper eyelid at the lash line.

    • 4). Gently blend in the eye shadow underneath your eye and on your upper lid. Pat the eye shadow around the eye with the pad of your fingertip.

    • 5). Apply a small amount of red eye shadow to a cotton ball. Dab the cotton ball over the black eye shadow already around your eye. Use the cotton ball sparingly. A little red looks more realistic than too much red.

    • 6). Dip another cotton ball into dark blue eye shadow. Dab the cotton ball over the red and black shadow around your eye.

    • 7). Pat the makeup around your eye with your fingertip. Gently patting the makeup creates a more realistic blending of the makeup, as opposed to rubbing it together.

    • 8). Sprinkle your fingertip with baby powder. Dab the baby powder around the eye. Applying baby powder on top of the makeup creates a lighter looking bruise. Apply more baby powder if you want the bruise to look even lighter.

    • 9). Blend the makeup so it fades at the edges of the bruise. Gently remove excess makeup around the edges with your finger until only a thin layer of makeup remains. Blend so it looks like the bruise fades into your face. Apply loose powder foundation around the edges of the bruise to help blend it better.
