- 1). Feed your canary quality foods fit for him. A proper diet is necessary for a canary to be healthy enough to learn his songs. Respect your canary's feeding schedule and provide him with premium quality canary seed. Feed him fresh fruits and vegetables daily to supplement his seed. Fresh water must always be present for your canary.
- 2). Protect the canary, and house him in a proper cage. Canaries caged in small, unclean areas may not feel the urge to sing joyfully in a filthy environment. A 15-inch by 15-inch cage will comfortably house one canary, while cages smaller than this may be too small for your canary. Keep this cage clean daily, and keep it in a well tempered area away from open windows if it is too cold or too warm outside.
- 3). Play an audio CD of canary songs to which your canary may sing along.Canaries can learn by imitation from specially made canary song CD's.These particular canary songs appeal to the joyful nature of canaries and may even provide phonetic training for canaries learning to sing. Constant repetition and imitation will gradually improve your canary's singing. You may also join in during lessons to encourage your canary and speed up his progression.
- 4). Remove the canary from high traffic areas when he is resting or sleeping. Hustle and bustle can become too much and stress out your canary. Canaries must get adequate resting time in order to learn best. Twelve hours of sleep or quiet in a dark, soundless area will work fine for most canaries.
