11. Réveillon Chá da Alice
A year-round party, Chá da Alice ("Alice's Tea") is themed after the wacky affair in Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland (but with a much wackier tea, blended with vodka and pepper).
The 2014 New Year's party with several DJs and performers and a buffet included in the price will be at Espaço Bella Vista, a two-story event venue near the Museum of Modern Art. Opened last September, the venue with a capacity for 900 offers, as indicated by its name ("Beautiful View"), offers amazing views of Guanabara Bay.
The party doesn't usually involve themed dress-up (see photos on their Facebook page, www.facebook.com/festa.chadaalice). White or casual are OK for the New Year's Eve shindig.

12. Réveillon Magique at Marina da Glória
Marina da Glória, bought from financially troubled Eike Batista by a holding company, has a tradition as a great venue for parties.
Réveillon Magique will serve over 30 cocktail-type and mini tasting menu foods and have an open bar with Jack Daniel's, Finlandia and Santa Dose (a cachaça blend with honey and lime).
DJs Marlboro, Zeh Pretim and Lightz and MC Marcinho form the musical lineup.

13. Réveillon da Gávea Cîroc : New Year's Eve at Sociedade Germania
Sociedade Germania, founded by German immigrants in 1821, rents its pleasant headquarters to Réveillon da Gávea, a party with DJs playing diverse styles (one of them, a retro set featuring 80s and 90s hits) and the Fica Comigo band playing retro samba.
The party on the 26,000-square-meter property with wooded areas integrated to the Tijuca Forest and a restored house which once belonged to Brazil presidente Epitácio Pessoa Filho (1865-1942) will also have an all-inclusive menu and an open bar serving Cîroc and vodka cocktails, Red Label, beer, sodas and energy drinks.

14. Rio Hostels Réveillon Party
The party thrown by El Misti Hostels has a summer theme and all-you-can-eat hot dogs, the crispy Biscoitos Globo that have been sold on the sands of Rio beaches for over 50 years, and popsicles.
In the open bar, vodka, energy drinks, beer, caipirinhas, water and soda will be served.
Afroreggae, a group which fosters social inclusion through art and one of the best blocos in Rio de Janeiro Carnival (they paraded on Carnival Monday in 2013), will perform at the party. There will also be DJs.
Partiers will be given a bracelet so they can go enjoy the fireworks on Copacabana Beach and come back to party some more.
The venue is CIB - Clube Israelita Brasileiro at Rua Barata Ribeiro 489, Copacabana and party hours are 7 p.m. to 2 a.m.
