Flower choices for a wedding are one way to reflect of the personalities of the bride and groom. They can be simple or elaborate, white or colorful. Besides your personal taste in flowers, consider what flowers will be in season on the date of your wedding, as well as how much money you have budgeted for flowers. - Roses are one of the most popular bridal flower choices and they are available year-round in a wide variety of sizes, shapes and colors. According to wedding resource hub The Knot, there are more than 3,000 varieties of roses grown commercially. They are often associated with fragrance, although not all varieties are scented. Roses can be used alone or in combination with other flowers or greenery. The stem is strong and straight, so roses are easy to carry, and thorns are typically removed by florists for wedding bouquets.
- Lilies are another popular choice for wedding flowers. Oriental lilies have the largest blooms of all lilies and are perfect for large bouquets. Calla lilies are trumpet shaped and are popular because they have no thorns or sharp edges. They have long stems that can retain moisture for quite a while. Miniature calla lilies are perfect for boutonnieres and nosegays. Lilies of the valley are bell-shaped and have an unmistakable perfumed scent.
- Orchids are very popular for bridal bouquets. They are available both as large flowers and mini-size. Popular color choices for orchid bouquets are white, yellow, pink and green. Orchids make good choices for corsages and centerpieces. Cymbidium orchids can handle several days without water before wilting, making them a good choice for brides that are getting married on hot summer days.
- Tulips are available in white and in both pastel and bright colors. Most common tulips are available year-round and are affordable, although rare tulips can be very expensive. Peonies are showy flowers with large heads, bright colors and strong scents. Ranunculus are mild-scented and a good alternative to peonies or roses. Hydrangeas are stylish and elegant, while freesias are a great choice for vintage wedding themes.
