How to Salute in the Military
- 1). Straighten your back and stand tall facing the military personnel or flag that you are saluting. Look the military personnel in the eyes or look at the flag.
- 2). Raise your right hand until your index finger touches the top of your right eyebrow. If you are wearing headgear, bring your index finger to the tip of the headgear, above the right eye. Make sure your fingers are together and your thumb is joined. Your upper arm should be horizontal, and your forearm should be inclined at a 45 degree angle.
- 3). Lower your hand to your side quickly without smacking, after your salute is acknowledged. A lazy salute, or conversely, one that is overdone, shows disrespect.
