Small Business Turns Expenses Into Profit
While working at a small local business located in Keyport NJ.
l began booking airline tickets and rental cars online, it started as an additional duty to assist the sales department and has turned into a addition on my resume.
By the end of 2008 I had become a Certified Travel Agent and started a travel business for the company I work for.
This turn-key website portal; very similar to Expedia and Travelocity, but now personalized to their name of choice, has allowed the company to continue its online travel booking and trip planning; but with the added benefit of receiving a commission from that very same travel! Can you imaging going to a business conference, renting a car, staying at the hotel where the conference is being hosted then after your return receiving a check? Since the market is extremely competitive in pricing; the tickets are always comparable if not a few dollars cheaper.
By using your own travel search engine a company can continue to travel within its budget; use all of the travel related programs given to frequent customers, and earns the corporation up to 75% in commission(some restrictions apply) on the trips and travel that they are already required to take.
I have found there has been no change in the way we book our travel; only what web address it is done from.
To obtain your own website you must gain access through a member.
The initial start up cost is minimal.
The R.
O.
I.
can be at more than 100% if any of this travel applies to your staff.
An additional way the company is saving on travel is by using normal office expenses and converting them into to travel miles.
Staples has a great Rewards program which allows you to convert the dollars spent on your office supplies into Continental One Pass miles.
This has been a great feature to have in place when the opportunity arises to upgrade airline tickets.
Many small business owners are unaware that they can own a travel website and book their hotel rooms, car rentals and even Broadway show tickets to entertain clients on their own sites and make a profit and do not forget the tax benefits! If you have to travel, especially for work earn a commission while doing so.
