- 1). Log on to your Presario 1200XI and click the "Start" button. Choose "Shut down" from the menu and confirm the shut down request. Wait until the computer shuts down completely, then remove the power cord from the back.
- 2). Slide the battery release latch to the unlocked position and carefully remove the battery. Set the battery aside.
- 3). Remove the Phillips-head screw that holds the memory expansion cover to the bottom of the laptop. Use a flat screwdriver to pry the cover up and set it aside.
- 4). Insert the additional RAM module into the empty expansion slot at a 45 degree angle. Push the memory module until it snaps into place, then flip the retaining screws up to hold it in place. Replace the memory module cover and secure it with the screw.
- 5). Remove the Phillips-head screw that holds the optical drive in place. Grasp the current drive by the front bezel and pull it free of the unit. Insert the replacement drive until it stops, then replace the screw.
