- 1). Use the pool brush to brush down the steps and sides of the pool. Push all of the debris to the bottom of the pool.
- 2). Vacuum the pool bottom to get rid of the all the debris that sits on the bottom. Backwash the filter when you are done vacuuming.
- 3). Test the pH level in the pool with the test kit. The pH must be between 7.2 and 7.4. Add the pH reducer if the pH is higher and use the pH increaser is to low.
- 4). Test the chlorine level. If the test kit tells you that the chlorine is low, add one gallon of chlorine per every 3,000 gallons of water in the pool. Pour the chlorine in the water starting at the shallow end and walking around the pool to the deep end. Evenly distribute the chlorine in the pool.
- 5). Run the filtering system for two days. Retest the pH and chlorine levels and adjust if needed.
- 6). Vacuum the pool bottom. This is important to remove any algae spores that may be left in the water.
