Christopher Knight, Host of "Trivial Pursuit: America Plays
Born: November 7th 1957
Hometown: New York, New York
Family: Married to model Adrianne Curry
Trademark: Will always be known as Peter Brady from The Brady Bunch
How Christopher Knight Got his Start:
Christopher Knight was born in New York, but his family moved to Los Angeles when he was only three years old. His father, actor Edward Knight, thought it would be a good idea to get his children into acting in order to put some money away for their educations.
After landing some commercials and small roles in shows like Gunsmoke, Knight got the part that would change his life forever: the role of Peter Brady in The Brady Bunch.
The Brady Bunch aired for five years, becoming a classic and shaping family television for generations. After the initial run of the show, it was syndicated immediately and has been on the air ever since.
After The Brady Bunch, Knight took some guest parts in shows like Happy Days, CHiPS, and The Bionic Woman. He's also been a major part of many Brady retrospectives and specials, including A Very Brady Christmas.
Taking a Break from Showbiz:
In 1988, Knight embraced his interest in science and technology, landing a job with Martec Inc. as a sales manager. He was very successful in his new career, and went on to set sales records at several companies. Knight eventually specialized in 3D graphics, and co-founded the companies Visual Software, Kidwise Learningware, and Eskape Labs.
Return to the Small Screen:
In 2003, Knight signed on to host TV Road Trip for the Travel Channel.
That led to a variety of other shows, including a celebrity version of Discovery's Body Challenge.
2005 marked Knight's first of many ventures into the world of reality TV, when he moved into the Surreal Life house. Not only did this gig bring him back into the spotlight, but he also met his wife, America's Next Top Model season one winner Adrianne Curry, on the show.
After a highly publicized and slightly awkward start to their relationship, Knight and Curry got their own reality show called My Fair Brady. The show lasted three seasons, and included their wedding in 2006. Other reality and game show endeavors followed, including appearances on Dr. 90210, Celebrity Family Feud, and Celebrity Circus, where Knight injured his arm and had to drop out of the competition.
'Trivial Pursuit: America Plays':
The timing of Knight's arm injury on Celebrity Circus worked out perfectly for his role as host of the syndicated game show Trivial Pursuit: America Plays. Since Circus took so much prep and practice time, Knight was initially too busy to prepare for the hosting gig and would have had to pass it up. As it happened, he ended up with enough time to learn the mechanics of the game and be comfortable with the role of host before filming began in the summer of 2008.
Fun Facts and Trivia:
- Knight was the winner on a special Brady Bunch episode of The Weakest Link, and donated his winnings to charity.
- Diagnosed with ADD in 1996, Knight has been vocal about raising awareness about and funds for the condition.
- Knight has remained close with his Brady Bunch co-stars, and was the best man at Barry Williams' wedding.
Christopher Knight Quotes:
"I was lucky, with this type of show (Surreal Life), that it was based on reality. That made it easier to break away, to recalibrate the audience. There are people who fondly remember me as Peter Brady, that's nice. But when I'm talking to people, when they're seeing me now, it becomes clear that I'm Chris, not Peter." – About.com interview, on breaking away from the Peter Brady pigeonhole
"I've been married twice before and I have to say that if there's something in common between those two relationships is that you reach a level of complacency. Whether or not it's a death to the relationship is the ability to break out of that complacency. I know with Adrianne, it's impossible to remain complacent." – Interview with PR.com
