Thymosin Therapy

• Although the thymus varies in size from person to person, it is usually large during infancy and childhood, and it is during that period where production of specialized cells takes place. The thymus is responsible for the production of specialized white blood cells known as T-cells. These cells work with and are an integral part of the immune system, which detects and destroys foreign objects such as cancer.
  
  Therapies that involve an individual immune system are known as immunotherapy. The highly specialized thymus cells referred to as T-cells are much like a bullet from a gun, that when released, it kills. That is the crust of thymus hormone cancer therapy. However, the real issue is to produce large amounts of T-cells in an older population to enable eradication of cancerous cells.
  
  

Types of Thymus Cells

• Not all T-cells are created equally. There are the immature and mature cells and interestingly enough, 99 percent of those cells that begin to mature, are simply just not good enough to fight off cancer cells. In fact, only mature cells ever make it into the bloodstream as an active defender. The road to maturity for these cells are not easily traveled because the immature cell must first prove that it will not produce an autoimmune response; that is that the cell recognizes its own environment as native, not foreign. Stem cell research is under way with hopes to develop strong, mature T-cells that will forcibly attack cancerous cells of all types. While this idea is still far from becoming a reality, thymus hormone cancer therapy is on its way.
