Day 1 - Day 4 -- Victoria Falls
Fly to Victoria Falls (best connections are via Johannesburg) and spend 3 nights at the Victoria Falls Safari Lodge in 1 2-Bedroomed suite - perfect for a family of four of five. The lodge has a fascinating raptor lunch program, an active waterhole and a very fun traditional dinner at The Boma. This is the perfect soft introduction to the thrills of an African vacation. Besides viewing the Victoria Falls themselves, you can enjoy a huge range of activities in and around town including white-water rafting, elephant safari, game drives, gorge swings, bungi jumps and more.
More about Victoria Falls Safari Lodge: The lodge was created with a keen eye for detail: all of the en-suite, air-conditioned rooms are decorated in rich hardwoods, thatch and bright-colored local fabrics, and each has a private balcony overlooking the unfenced Zambezi National Park.
The friendly service from the Zimbabwean staff is a hallmark of this lodge, and you’ll experience this firsthand at the award-winning Boma Restaurant. Partially open to the African skies and sheltered by the indigenous Gusu forest, the restaurant specializes in a superb selection of traditional Zimbabwean dishes. The lodge is also well known for its entertainment, whether it is Ndebele performers captivating guests with their energetic songs and dances, or a sangoma (traditional story teller) regaling people with local folklore.
Day 4 - Day 6 -- Chobe Game Lodge
Travel overland from Victoria Falls to Kasane and drive to Chobe Game Lodge located in the heart of Chobe National Park.
More about Chobe Game Lodge: The only permanent lodge in the Chobe National Park, 7,000 square miles of pristine wilderness, ranging from the verdant flood grassland and thickets beside the Chobe River, to forest, mopane woodland and scrub. Watch spectacular herds congregate to drink. The Elephant population, estimated to 30,000 is the largest single concentration in Africa. Game drives are conducted in open sided 4X4 vehicles ensuring maximum visibility, while game viewing on the Chobe River is conducted by small, shallow draft and highly maneuverable boats piloted by expert boatmen. Your resident professional guides offer slide shows, star gazing presentations, garden and river walks as well as walking safaris in the nearby Kasane forests. Throughout the lodge graceful high arches, quarry tiled floors and barrel vaulted ceilings create an atmosphere of cool tranquility. Each of the 46 rooms is tastefully furnished with hand crafted Rhodesian teak furniture and original African carvings and paintings on the walls. Facilities within the lodge include a well-stocked curio shop and wildlife reference library and a stylish Tshwene bar with full-sized Victorian pool tables overlooking the floodplains. The Boma (outdoor eating area enclosed by reed walls) is situated under large Mahogany trees on the banks of River. Like the rooms, the boma has been furnished in teak and leather. The Table d'Hote Restaurant offers a range of International and local dishes for breakfast, lunch and dinner, set in a tranquil garden where resident warthogs can often be found grazing.
Day 6 - Day 10 - Machaba Camp, Okavango Delta
Fly from Kasane to Khwai to reach Machaba Camp in one of the finest wildlife areas of the Okavango Delta and Moremi game reserve.
More about Machaba Camp: The name Machaba is the Setswana for the Sycamore Fig Tree, the tree of life, which abounds in the Okavango Delta and their abundant fruit, feed a vast array of animals throughout the year, including elephant, baboons, bush buck, green pigeons and many more. Positioned to maximize the picturesque views over the Moremi and Khwai River, Machaba Camp is built in the classic 1950's style, and independently owned and run with only 10 luxury safari tents. Each tent features a private en-suite bathroom, hot and cold running water, flush plumbing and a romantic outdoor shower. Dinners are served around the campfire whenever possible. On game drives, buffalo, lion, zebra, wildebeest, giraffe and many different species of antelope are plentiful. You may even see the elusive leopard and a profusion of smaller nocturnal animals. At dusk, the sand grouse fly down to the banks of the river and the hippos leave the water in search of the night's pastures. A night drive at Machaba reveals another world -- bush babies, hyenas, jackals and genets will all show themselves, as well as nocturnal birds. Elephant often pass by the camp in search for acacia pods on their way to the waters of the Khwai River, the local water supply for big game in the area, and the boundary between Machaba and the Moremi Wildlife Reserve itself.
Day 10 - Extend your trip to enjoy a few nights in Cape Town, or fly home!
