40 and Pregnant
Many woman when they are 40 years of old and find they are pregnant are pushed into a state of panic.
The pregnancy might be accidental or pre planned, but the initial thought that comes into the mind of the woman is how I am going to carry my baby for the next 9 months.
This is because they are well aware of the facts and the complications associated with the late age pregnancy.
The risks that are associated with this kind of pregnancy are many.
The medical terms for these complications are given as chromosomal defects, fetal abnormalities, miscarriage, Diabetes, placental abruption, Pre-eclampsia, Placenta Previa, prolapse and stillbirth.
Our head spins when we just hear these problems.
There are heavy chances of miscarriage and once a woman has this miscarriage she looses heart and becomes very exhausted and resuming back to her self takes a long time as she is in her old age.
But some try to convince that if you do not miscarry in the first 12 weeks then the chance of delivering a full term baby is high.
But then the risks associated with the late pregnancy are always there right from the first week till the end.
As in the regular pregnancy, nausea and vomiting is always there and weight gain is rather rapid which reduces the possibility of normal delivery.
Hence in 90 percent of the cases the women would have a C- section, which might take some time to recover because of their old age.
There are these small discomforts like heartburn, headaches, abdominal pain and dehydration.
Many woman end up admitted in the hospital in the early pregnancy weeks and sometimes they are even given drips to avoid dehydration.
In spite of all these risks, pregnancy has always been a happy phase of life and would continue to be so no matter what the age is.
