How to Move a Shower Drain in Concrete Foundation
- 1). Remove the drain grate and unscrew the drain flange with a screwdriver. Cut around the drain with the jackhammer and remove the concrete holding the drain in place. Lift out the drain and cut it from the drainage pipe with a pipe saw.
- 2). Mark a new route for the drainpipe leading to the new shower installation using spray paint. Cut along this route with the jackhammer, making a channel for the new drain line. Cut a 3-inch hole in the concrete for the new shower drain basket at the new installation point.
- 3). Connect the new drainpipe to the old drain line with a coupling and run the new line to the new shower drain. Install an elbow joint on the end of the drain line and dry-fit the joint to the new shower drain. Take all the pipes and fittings apart and reassemble them after coating each with PVC primer and adhesive.
- 4). Fill the drainage channel with gravel and apply fresh concrete over the top. Spread the concrete across the entire pipe channel with a trowel. Pat down the surface to flatten and smooth it over, with a flat tamping tool. Allow it to dry for 24 hours.
