Uses of Hypnosis
The uses of hypnosis are many.
It is used in everything and everywhere by everybody everyday.
I know you'll think its ridiculous for me to say that but please let me explain.
The hypnotic trance is simply a state of mind where the conscious is exclusively focused upon something thereby leaving the subconscious relatively unguarded.
This enables the hypnotist (actually I'm going to call them hypnotizer - I'll explain why in a moment) the opportunity to make suggestions to the persons subconscious.
Furthermore suggestions made properly to the subconscious can result in behaviour modification.
Consider this.
Have you ever been reading a book or a magazine and someone has stood next to you saying something but you don't seem to even hear them? You haven't suddenly gone deaf its just that, at that moment, your conscious mind is focused on reading (actually it's the images that reading creates but that's another story).
however your subconscious is listening to them, that's that strange feeling of slight awareness you start to get that someone's there, and you are hearing what they say it's simply that you are in a hypnotic trance and can't respond.
This kind of thing happens everyday to everybody.
Kids listening to a good teacher at school, watching your favourite TV, listening to the radio, anything really.
It can all induce hypnotic trance and does so for pretty much everybody, everyday.
What's more, when we are talking to someone and they are really interested and focused on what we're saying we are in fact their hypnotizer.
If you are engrossed in a film or online discussion then the medium is the screen or the text but you are your own hypnotizer.
It's a form of self hypnosis.
Now when we're in such a trance most people will either walk away thinking how rude or poke us in the ribs and force us to respond.
However a hypnotist differs from normal hypnotizers because they won't do that.
They understand the process and may chose to take advantage of it by suggesting to our subconscious that we do or think something.
So, other than amusing a vaudeville audience what are the other uses of hypnosis? Well advertisers are mad for it.
Used in TV commercials its called subliminal advertising.
Remember Cadbury's drumming gorilla or Guinness's techno surfer dude.
Well check the online discussions surrounding them.
However their is a school of hypnosis that has really taken the realisation that hypnotic trance is an everyday occurrence to a new level.
Conversational hypnotists use every day phrases and stories to put people in an open trance and this enables them to make suggestions to the persons subconscious without them realizing it.
What's more the subject isn't even aware that it's happening.
It has been proven to be extremely effective, Business executives the world over have been paying thousands of dollars to access conversational hypnosis training courses.
You can imagine the advantages for negotiators and salesmen.
However hypnosis has its most telling social impact when it is used as hypnotherapy.
This has been proven to effectively treat a wide range of psychological disorders.
From drug and alcohol addiction to personality disorder and depression hypnotherapy is used the world over to improve peoples lives in a variety of different ways.
Furthermore hypnosis can also be used in the from of self hypnosis to overcome sleep problems, improve relaxation and address anxiety and stress related illness.
We can use hypnotic audio and video to learn new skills and acquire knowledge.
We can even use hypnosis to help us lose weight or improve our love lives.
