Three Simple Tips to Boost Your Immunity and Stay Healthy This Winter: Part 2
Personally, I don't feel like getting sick this winter - runny noses, wheezing, coughing, feeling horrible - not a part of my winter game plan.
However, I'm not getting a flu shot and I work around children on a daily basis -- with these things in mind I MUST make sure that I am doing everything with my nutrition and supplements to make sure I don't get sick.
Here are 3 tips to Boost Your Immunity through your Nutrition and Diet: Tip #1 -- Eat LOTS and LOTS of Vegetables Fresh fruits and veggies have TONS of benefits for our body.
Loading up on blueberries (filled with antioxidants) and green rich colored vegetables will give our body the nutrients it needs to fight off colds and other germs.
If you only eat processed foods your body will not have all the nutrients it needs to keep your immune system strong.
Tip # 2 -- Keep your Digestive System Clean Not trying to be gross here -- but your digestive system contains up to 70% of your body's immune cells -- so if your gut isn't healthy -- you aren't going to be healthy.
How do you keep your digestive system clean? Make sure you have probiotics in your diet.
How? Yogurt is a GREAT source of probiotics (however some yogurts are high in sugar).
Another source? Take a probiotic supplement -- this will ensure that your body has enough of the good stuff to keep your stuff clean and healthy.
Tip #3 -- Take Your Vitamins Now is the time of year to make sure that you are taking your vitamins EVERYDAY -- without fail.
What to take? A multivitamin is important - but you may need to add some vitamin D.
Why? Ensuring your body has enough vitamin D ensures the proper function of our T cells (a key component in our immune system).
The best source of Vitamin D is the sun - but if your schedule is anything like mine there is no way for you to spend time outside between 10 and 2 to get that Vitamin D.
So -- the next best bet? A vitamin D supplement! Make sure to keep in mind these three simple tips to help you avoid getting sick this winter.
