Measure the wide ribbon around each of the layers. It will go directly over the rubber bands, hiding them. Even if you use a sheer ribbon, like I did here, you won't see the rubber band in the end. A wired ribbon works really well for helping to maintain a shape. I secured the ribbon together with glue dots, you can use whatever works best for you.
