Learn This Easy Mental Trick to Banish Fear Forever and Skyrocket Your Confidence and Self Esteem
Imagine, now.
There you are.
Knocking on the door of your blind date.
You've never seen her before, but according to your friends, she's a great catch.
She has her PhD in advanced mathematics, and makes well into six figures a year.
Before she completed her thesis, she spent a year in Africa on an archaeological dig in the middle of a violent tribal dispute which has lasted hundreds of years.
You, on the other hand, work at McDonald's.
You aren't nervous, are you? Of course not.
How about this.
You get a slim envelope in the mail from your bank.
It is not nearly as thick as your regular bank statements, and there is some red lettering on the front which you haven't read.
You pick up the letter, and casually glance around looking for your letter opener.
You aren't nervous, are you? Of course not.
Ok, one more.
There you are, taking a psychology class.
It is the first day of class.
There are about 300 students in class, and magically most of them are the opposite sex, and from your brief visual inspection as you entered the room, they are all the ideal height, weight, face and body type that you love.
And they all looked at you with approving smiles as you walked in the door.
The professor comes in and says he'd like to begin the class with an icebreaker.
You are to stand up, and after giving your first name and age, and income, you are to give a brief five minute synopsis of your favorite contemporary psychologist, why you like him or her, and three sticking points that you have with their latest theory on the human mind.
He chooses a name at random from the roll book, and guess who's first? You! You aren't nervous, are you? Of course not.
The reason you aren't nervous is because you stumbled on this great article here that you're in the middle of reading now.
And since you will have applied the easy tricks in this article on a regular basis, you will have learned the secret to banish fear forever, and proudly claim what you want in life.
So when those situations above come up, since they most certainly will, you'll be able to greet them with eager and lustful anticipation.
Or something like that.
Ready? Here we go.
One of the biggest things that gives fear their power is your fear of them.
OK that sounds a bit redundant, so let me explain.
Say you have a fear of public speaking.
Even when you think about public speak, you become a little bit nervous.
If your friend suggests you join toastmasters, you feel your stomach tie up in knots.
You are not even close to anything closet to public speaking, but you are still cringing in terror.
So you do the most obvious.
As well as ignoring the actual thing that you fear, you ignore actually thinking about.
And because you don't even think about it, you don't really experience the truth of what it really is.
You make up some horrible image in your mind of what you think it is.
The thing you actually fear is that horrible imaginary monster that doesn't exist, not the actual thing, like public speaking in this case.
The cure? Acceptance.
Embrace.
Appreciation.
Do this now.
Take something you are terrified of doing, and imagine doing it.
Really really imagine.
As you imagine it you will feel your muscles and your stomach tighten and your mind will scream at you and try to get you to think of something else.
But let go.
Release.
Tell you are safe because this is only in your imagination.
Allow that which you think you fear to engulf you.
Allow the worse possible situation imaginable to occur in your mind.
Breath it in.
Accept it.
Embrace it.
Appreciate it.
Feel gratitude for it.
Feel love for it.
When you do this you realize something wonderful.
The more you practice accepting and embracing your fears (in your mind) the less power they will have over you.
If you do this enough, and with enough feeling and imagination, you can even remove the fear completely from the real life situation.
The key is consistent practice, with real feelings.
But you can feel safe knowing that when you practice, it's only in your imagination.
Self development is a great passion of mine.
