Rio de Janeiro can be rightfully proud of Centro de Referência da Música Carioca Artur da Távola, a cultural center devoted to the creation, research and preservation of the city's musical heritage.

1. Overview


Centro de Referência da Música Carioca Artur da Távola occupies a restored mansion in the heart of Tijuca, a district full of history and authentic bars (botequins) serving hearty food in Rio's North Side.

The Center houses a studio, a music school (in an annex), exhibits and an auditorium with seating capacity of 200.

Travelers with an interest in Brazilian and, specifically, Rio de Janeiro music will enjoy the center's weekend shows featuring great names of the local music scene, often in tandem with up-and-coming young talents.

The center pays homage to journalist, poet, writer and politician Artur da Távola (1936-2008) and his great contributions to Brazil culture and music.

2. The Mansion


Tijuca holds a precious key to Rio de Janeiro history. A walk on the district's streets reveals old houses in varying states of preservation. The mansion which is home to Centro de Referência da Música Carioca Artur da Távola was completely renovated by the City of Rio de Janeiro over the course of two years.
