Toh Baat Pakki - The Marriage is Fixed
The bonding between two people in marriage is a well experimented and rewarding genre for film makers in India.
Marriage which is a social, religious, spiritual and legal union of two individuals holds special place in the culture of Indian community, so its prominence has been reflected in the films of the country as well.
Such is the case with the upcoming Bollywood film releasing in February titled Toh Baat Pakki.
The film is directed by Kedar Shinde and produced by Ramesh S Taurani.
The music is composed by Pritam whose music is being raved now-a-days in India.
The film stars Tabu, Sharman Joshi, Vatsal Seth and Uvika Chaudhary in lead roles.
The core issue in the film focuses on finding a groom for a girl which is a general human trait and can either be good or bad for the individuals involved.
In the movie, Tabu as Rajeshwari plays the role of a typical Indian middle class wife who is married for quite some time to a bank cashier named as Vinay (Ayub Khan), has affable children with ambitions and desires of reaching a higher social status.
She also has the dream of seeing her sister Nisha happily married in her own Saxena community.
As she is against dowry, her task is even more difficult but she is strong enough to give up the task for her sister.
Fortunately, she finds an eligible Saxena boy in Rahul who is studying engineering (bright future) and her search is over and the only thing that has to be achieved is how to fix this ideal wedding.
So, she takes Rahul to her home as a paying guest thus focusing on the prospects and views on marriage.
When the concerned sister learns that the eligible bachelor is not willing to marry, she devises a plan to bring him closer to her sister assuming that he will definitely fall for her innocence.
The plan works but the problem arises when she encounters another eligible bachelor from her community in the name of Yuvraaj (Vatsal Seth).
This poses a problem for her as the new one is having his own business and appears to be more suitable.
This dilemma forms the crux of human mentality of all times.
Jane Austen once said in her best selling novel Pride and Prejudice about marriage: "It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife.
However little known the feelings or views of such a man may be on his first entering a neighbourhood, this truth is so well fixed in the minds of the surrounding families, that he is considered the rightful property of some one or other of their daughters.
" These words definitely find their relevance and also give a thrust to the theme of the movie.
So, the marriage theme is not a new one but it is the treatment that matters the most.
It has been discussed by many prolific writers of all time, from middle Ages to Modern era giving their opinions.
It remains to be seen what happens with this venture featuring Tabu who has won two national awards for her acting talents but was also a part of certain forgettable projects in the past.
Even the films focusing on marriage are sometime lost in the oblivion as they don't have a sensible script and direction.
This remains to be seen when the movie actually comes before us.
