Stranded Abroad - The Appeal of the British Holiday

103 10
As volcanic ash continues to spew out of Eyjafjallajökull in Iceland, thousand of Britons are left stranded abroad due to the ash cloud spreading east and disrupting numerous flight paths [1].
It is unknown how long the ash cloud could go on creating disorder around the globe and as a result, passengers do not know when they will be able to fly to their destinations, or whether they will be able to get back easily and safely.
Cue the British holiday.
Last year we saw the rise of the 'staycation' (holidaying in Britain rather than abroad) due to the economic downturn.
Now we could potentially see it again with holidaymakers worrying about volcanic ash ruining their travel plans.
The best part about the British holiday is the freedom to explore our own island; once you've packed the car and have your vehicle covered via the most practical of the car insurance quotes, you are free to go.
England There are so many counties in England to choose from that you might even find it difficult to decide where to go.
If you are holidaying in the summer though, a seaside destination is probably better suited if you want to be able to take advantage of sunny days on the beach.
We've listed a few popular destinations around England for you to explore: •North East: Scarborough •East Anglia: Cromer •South East: Eastbourne •South: Bournemouth •South West: Newquay •North West: Southport Scotland The Scottish coast is a bit wilder than its English counterparts, but don't discount it from your travel plans that easily.
There is a selection of blue flag beaches waiting to be discovered, as well as plenty of rural retreats too.
The blue flag beaches include Montrose Seafront in Angus, Broughty Ferry beach near Dundee in Angus, and Elie Ruby Bay in Fife.
Wales Wales too is a beautiful country, with many coastal hotspots ideal for a summer holiday.
Llandudno, located in north Wales, is one of the biggest resorts with many attractions for tourists.
Aside from the beaches, there is a cable car and artificial ski slope for the adventurous, and amusements on the pier for those who prefer to keep their feet on solid ground.
Rhyl and Prestatyn are also located in the north of the country, and are suited towards families with younger children due to the activities on offer.
