Mammoth Mountain, California

• With more than 400 feet of annual snowfall and thousands of acres of skiing terrain, the season in Mammoth often lasts for six months. The resort offers ski runs for all skill levels. The Village Lodge features accommodations ranging from studio to three-bedroom condominiums in the center of town close to dining, shopping and gondola access. Telluride Ski Resort, Colorado

• Telluride is among the highest concentration of 14,000-foot peaks in North America, with panoramic views and a choice of hotels, restaurants, shops and spas, as well as free gondola transportation. Stowe Mountain Resort, Vermont

• Mount Mansfield, Vermont's highest peak, is home to the Stowe Mountain Resort, where the world's fastest gondola and the first detachable quad chair in the eastern United States can be found. From Stowe, skiers can access more than 200 miles of skiing terrain. Lodging options in the area include Topnotch, a luxury hotel on 120 acres between Stowe and Mount Mansfield.
