Delhi 3-Star Hotels Business Strategies Around The Airport
The Indira Gandhi International Airport IGI) in Delhi was formerly known as Palam Airport. Estimated to cater to nearly 40 million passengers annually by 2010, it is about 20 KM away from the city centre. There are several modes of transport from the airport to reach any location in the city – rental cars, luxury coaches run by private operators and airport authorities, auto rickshaws, metered cabs and buses. Frequented by thousands of people who travel to Delhi for business and through Delhi for places beyond for work and pleasure, you don't have to go very far to find a place of stay. The places and localities around the domestic and international airports have been booming with business ever since the new domestic terminal started operations in 2012.
Economy and budget hotels near Delhi airport suddenly sprung up almost overnight to catch the burgeoning passenger traffic. While most business and international travellers choose to go into the city centre and stay at the high-end deluxe and luxury hotels, the full scale operations of domestic services from Terminal 3 of the IGI has created a scramble among the mid-range hotels that are hurrying to get a permanent foothold in the infrastructure being put in place around the airport. Transit passengers passing through the airport on way to their final destinations, and families travelling on planned, tight budgets, showed a preference leaning towards stays at 2-3 star hotels as a consequence of which many Delhi 3 star hotels always see near full occupancy levels through the year. Sensing a great lasting business opportunity, larger hotel groups hurriedly put strategies in place to market business and airport hotels as 3-star hotels in Delhi with proximity to the airport. But by 3-star it is not implied that the facilities and infrastructure are limited in any way; hotels have gone all the way to offer extra guest facilities, services, offers and perks like discounted rates, package rates and rates that include extra services thrown in.Â
It certainly looks as if the hotels near Delhi airport have coined a new business strategy that is unique and in keeping with the need of the hour. On the other end of the spectrum, seeing the success the Delhi 3 star hotels were stringing up, smaller economy and budget hotels upped their act to quickly reinvent themselves, refurbish and revamp their services and launched themselves also as airport business hotels. Guest services and facilities not usually offered in uniformly positioned economy and budget hotels were quickly introduced to give the guest ‘value for money'. There is enough business to be mopped up, as they say, and both segments of the sector, the ‘larger end' and the ‘shorter end' are happy to share the spoils.
