How to Set Up a Mug Shot for a Party

    • 1). Remove everything from the wall where you'll be shooting the guests' pictures as they arrive. Apply strips of double-sided tape to the perimeter of the poster board sheet and stick the board onto the wall where you'll be taking photos.

    • 2). Hold the yardstick vertically to either the left or right side of the poster board and use the stick's edge to draw a straight vertical line down the side of the board. Make small tick marks on the line to mark increments in feet and in inches. Turn the yardstick horizontally and draw straight lines to mark the measurements on the poster.

    • 3). Stick the appropriate adhesive numbers onto the poster board in their measured locations to create a height table, common in many jails and police precincts.

    • 4). Cut out a piece of cardboard that measures roughly 15 inches in length and 5 inches in height. Place a random series of six numbers in order, from left to right, on the cardboard piece. Place two more at the far right; as guests enter to have their mug shot taken, stick new numbers over the last two numbers so that each guest's shot will be unique.

    • 5). Set your camera on a tripod and position the camera so that only the poster board is in the frame with the height table to the left or right of the frame, depending on where you placed it. As each guest enters, have them stand holding the number plate and making whatever face they would like. Print each picture on a printer and hand out the mug shots to the guests as they leave the party.
