How to Prepare a Minute Resume
- 1). Write your name and contact information. Include your full first and last name, mailing address, email address and phone number. Make sure your email address is professional, not "supercutie@hotmail.com," but "john.smith@hotmail.com." Be sure you have a professional voicemail message on the phone number you list. You may also include your LinkedIn ID or professional website in this section. To facilitate reading, list your information logically instead of jumbling them all onto one line.
- 2). Write your objective/value statement. This can be one or two sentences but make sure it is detailed, clear and compelling. Make sure to specify the position you are applying for and highlight one or two of your most relevant skills or accomplishments.
- 3). State your educational and training experiences. Clearly and succinctly layout your degrees, diplomas, certificates or any other relevant documents. Specify the institutions where you received the documents and the completion dates of your educational and/or training experiences. Unless the position you're applying for requires specific degrees or documents, only list your three most relevant or recent experiences.
- 4). State your professional work experiences. For each work experience, specify your job title, the organization name, your start and finish dates and briefly list your major responsibilities and accomplishments.
- 5). State your relevant skills and expertise. Target computer and/or human resume-scanning by using keywords and industry jargon.
- 6). State "References upon request." Don't waste space by listing your references on your resume. If the employer wants them, he will ask for them.
