- 1). Position a jack under the passenger's side of the truck and raise it off the ground. Place a jack stand under the frame to support the truck while you are working under it.
- 2). Disconnect the negative battery terminal from the battery with a wrench. Move under the truck and locate the starter on the passenger's side of the engine.
- 3). Locate and remove the two wires attached to the back of the starter with a wrench or socket and ratchet. Move the wires to the side and out of the way for now.
- 4). Locate the two mounting bolts that attach the starter to the bell housing. Remove the bolts with a socket and ratchet while supporting the starter with one hand.
- 5). Slide the starter back and out of the bell housing then lower the starter down and out of the engine compartment.
