  Power washers use pressurized water to blast away dirt caked into block paving. They also work well for clearing out debris and weeds from between blocks. This option is especially good for people who can't spend time on their knees scrubbing at the paving as most power washing can be achieved standing up. The Block Paving website suggests you keep the power washer nozzle at least eight inches away from the paving at all times.
  
  

Weed Killer

  Weeds and algae find their way between the block paving and can spread over the patio or walkway. Some home owners prefer to keep these weeds as they add an aged, overgrown look to the garden. If you want to clear them out, use a standard weed killer. Leave the chemicals for the time indicated on the packaging. Brush or power-wash the debris away once the plants have died.

  Paving sealants prevent mold and algae from forming. Acrylic sealants are best for residential areas according to the Paving Expert website. Power-wash the paving two to three weeks before applying the sealant to get rid of surface dirt. Ensure that the paving is completely dry just before sealant application and that there is no rainy weather in the forecast for the next few days.
