Does Ivy Crowd Out Weeds?
Planting Ivy
- Use ivy transplants when planting to get a jump start on crowding out weeds. Choose a place in the yard that has well-draining soil. Ivy is susceptible to root rot and other fungal diseases when planted in poorly draining soil. Plant the ivy 1 to 2 inches deeper in the soil than it was planted in its container to achieve strong root development. Space ivy plants 18 to 25 inches a part, as suggested by the Virginia Cooperative Extension.
