How to Oil a Treadmill
- 1). Choose a treadmill lubricant approved by the manufacturer of your treadmill. Most companies recommend using a lubricant specifically made by the manufacturer to avoid any damage to the deck or belt of the treadmill.
- 2). Turn off the treadmill and unplug it from the wall to avoid electrical shock. Locate the belt and the running deck of the treadmill. The belt is the moving part of the treadmill that you walk on. The running deck is the solid surface directly underneath the belt.
- 3). Loosen the bolts on the rear roller with a hex key. These two bolts are located at the back of the treadmill on either side of the belt and they control the belt's tension. When you loosen each bolt, the belt will become slack and you can lift it up to gain access to the running deck. Do not completely remove the belt or the bolts from the treadmill.
- 4). Wipe the treadmill belt and running deck down with a damp cloth to remove any dust or dirt which may have accumulated.
- 5). Pour or spray approximately 2 oz. of lubricant onto the running deck of the treadmill. Try to spread the lubricant evenly as you apply it.
- 6). Tighten the rear roller bolts to restore the belt to its original condition. Plug the treadmill in, turn it on, and walk on the treadmill for at least two minutes to thoroughly spread the lubricant over the running deck and ensure proper lubrication.
