    Federal Pell Grant

    • Students in B.A. programs with a financial need for assistance can apply for the Federal Pell Grant. Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education, participating colleges and universities administer grant awards. Recipients of the Pell Grant do not need to repay funds and can receive up to $5,500 per school year, as of January 2011. Administrators base awards on a student's need, enrollment status, cost of attendance and length of enrollment.

      According to the U.S. Department of Education, more than 5,000 colleges and universities participate in the Federal Pell Grant program. Undergraduate students interested in the Federal Pell Grant must submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on the FAFSA website.

    Golden Key International Honour Society

    • According to the Golden Key International Honour Society, it distributes more than $600,000 in awards and scholarships each year. Candidates must hold membership with the society and can apply for multiple scholarship programs.

      Education students can apply for the Education Achievement Award, which pays up to $2,000, as of January 2011. The Geico Life Scholarship awards $1,000, as of January 2011, to students balancing educational and noneducational commitments, such as career and family responsibilities. The Literary Achievement Award pays up to $1,000, as of January 2011, to writers of fiction, poetry, nonfiction and news.

    California Student Aid Commission

    • California residents attending public and private schools in California can apply for grants and scholarships offered by the California Student Aid Commission. The commission offers the Cal Grant A Entitlement Award for students with a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0. As of January 2011, awardees can receive up to $11,124 to attend a school in the University of California system.

      The Cal Grant B program awards funding to low-income students. Freshmen students can receive funding to cover living expenses and books and can receive additional money for fees and tuition after their first year.

      California students can apply for Cal Grant programs by completing a FAFSA on the FAFSA website.

    United Negro College Fund

    • Founded to address the educational needs of African American students, the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) now offers grants and scholarships for all types of students. Each funding program has its own eligibility requirements and application deadlines.

      The Frito Lay Arts Scholarship offers money for undergraduate fine arts, visual arts and drama students. The scholarship pays up to $5,000, as of January 2011, to students attending four-year colleges.

      The John Lennon Endowed Scholarship pays up to $5,000 to students in communication, music, media arts and performing arts programs and requires applicants to have a minimum GPA of 3.0.

      Students must apply for UNCF scholarships online at the UNCF website.
