    • 1). Decide if you need a smaller model chipper that grinds branches less than 2 inches in diameter or a larger one that handles branches up to 4 inches in diameter.

    • 2). Read the directions in the operator's manual.

    • 3). Wear close-fitting clothing, long pants, sturdy boots, safety glasses and ear protection.

    • 4). Use a properly rated extension cord for an electric model.

    • 5). Place the chipper on level ground

    • 6). Make sure all guards and safety shields are in place.

    • 7). Start the chipper at the slowest speed.

    • 8). Feed branches butt first and release the wood when

    • 9). the rollers grip it.

      Use a long branch to feed shorter branches.
