I have really been looking lately at some very successful business of all kinds and trying to determine what makes them great.
There are lots of factors, but one really stands out amongst a lot of small businesses...
They give away something for FREE, a bonus, a perk.
When a business gives away something for FREE, they gain more customers, and are more likely to have their existing customers (their most valuable asset, you know) return.
So, by giving away, they WIN.
Over and over again, the winning businesses use this technique.
Take a look at some of the most successful businesses.
The internet ones sometimes offer FREE shipping.
You buy a new car and might get a FREE gift card to a local restaurant.
It is a proven practice to attract and retain customers.
Think about how a free gift makes a customer feel.
Buying decisions are usually based in feeling, in emotions, then the customer turns to logic and analysis.
If you make them feel good (legitimately, do not do it just to manipulate them), they will develop a loyalty to your business.
If you can give them some value, above and beyond what they are expecting, it will help build that relationship.
One maxim I have heard much lately is: Under-promise and over-deliver.
Basically this means give them more than you said you would.
It will surprise and excite them, make them feel (again, legitimately) that they are getting good value.
When you are trying to determine what kinds of freebies to give away, best to have something useful for everyone.
A new car buyer maybe some free car washes, a free oil change.
A photographer maybe a free frame or free sitting.
Another really good and easy idea is something anyone can use, such as a gift certificate restaurant, magazine, subscriptions.
Again, just think about it yourself, your own personal experience...
It is a great, warm feeling of satisfaction when you get something for FREE.
Makes you appreciate that person/company.
Makes you want to keep buying from them AND tell others about how great they are.
Did you know one of your BEST marketing tools is referrals? It is simply good business to have happy customers.
So do what you can to attract and keep good customers.
I know for some businesses times are hard right now.
Using this technique can not just help maintain your current sales, but INCREASE them (and your PROFITS), making your company MORE money, putting YOU in a better financial position.
If you are completely satisfied with how things are going now with your business, good for you.
Far and away though, most business could use a little boost, a new idea, new ways of being BETTER, of IMPROVING, ways to make more money.
BE one of those BETTER BUSINESSES and use freebies!
