Targeting Core Groups for Gonorrhoea Control
Targeting Core Groups for Gonorrhoea Control
Core group interventions have proven effective in gonorrhoea control in the past. However, they are compromised by the spread of highly resistant gonorrhoea strains. A worldwide functional GASP, along with better screening and treatment programmes, is imperatively required. More than ever, primary prevention of gonorrhoea transmission through condom promotion remains relevant and crucial. More specific treatment guidance by the WHO for LMICs without resistance data is required in the meantime to achieve a better use of antibiotics for gonorrhoea control.
