Troubleshooting Heat Pump Latitude THGD36S21S1
- 1). Check the condensate drain for blockages of fungus or mold and remove it if you see any wetness in the furnace or on the floor around your heat pump.
- 2). Clean the coil of your Latitude heat pump if your pump does not operate by first removing any leaves, grass clippings, paper, loose snow, or debris which could block the unit's air flow. Vacuum the coil between the fins to remove debris. Turn the main electrical power to your outdoor unit off and use a garden hose to wash the coil if you see it has an excess of dirt. Ensure you do not get water into the control box and the fan motor. After a major snowstorm, do not knock the ice off the surface of the coil, since this could crush the fins, blocking air.
- 3). Set the thermostat to the proper setting if your heat pump does not heat or cool by ensuring you have your thermostat set to a temperature that feels comfortable to you, then leaving your thermostat at that setting. While you have your thermostat set at "Heat," your outdoor unit should be running 100 percent of the time. When you set your thermostat to "Cool," which can be between 75 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit depending on your preferences, the longer your unit must operate. Switching your thermostat quickly between "Heat" and "Cool" or "On" and "Off" can damage your heat pump -- wait 5 minutes in between each switch.
