Reducing Indoor Pollution

103 3
Many people do not realize that indoor environmental quality can be more harmful than the outdoor air pollution.
The air quality indoors can damage your health.
Pollutants indoors may be two to five time higher than outdoor levels.
The best carpet cleaning is the hot water extraction method.
This procedure is best described as a hot water solution and is sprayed at high pressure into the carpet and simultaneously sucked out of the carpet.
Sometimes this method is also referred to as steam cleaning even though steam is not used.
Most carpet manufacturers recommend hot water extraction.
Basically there are two types of hot water extraction: Portable extraction, which is done with a small machine that is plugged into your household current (like you would rent at the supermarket), or truck-mounted extraction which means the large cleaning machine is mounted in a truck or van.
Not surprisingly, the truck-mounted extraction cleans the best it heats the water up to 230 degrees.
Once water reaches 120 degrees, every 15 to 17 degree temperature rise doubles the water's ability to clean; at high temperature the water itself becomes a very powerful cleaner.
The higher the temperature, the less water needed to rinse, and the less water used to rinse so the carpet dries faster.
The cleaning solution is rinsed out of the carpet at high pressure - which breaks up the dirt, bacteria and pollens.
Then the machine uses high suction to simultaneously draw the dirt out of the carpet.
Truck mounted, hot-water extraction procedure is the most powerful cleaning machine on the market and the only one that thoroughly cleans your carpet of dirt, harmful bacteria, fungus, chemicals, pollens, tobacco residue and indoor pollutants.
Methods that use cold or even warm water remove some dirt - but are not nearly as effective as the hot-water truck mount method.
Following are additional tips to improve the air quality of your home.
1.
Have your carpet cleaned professionally by any technician that is certified.
2.
Control humidity and moisture to keep down mold and dust mites.
3.
Clean all bedding, upholstery, draperies and other fabric surfaces; wash linens weekly.
4.
Use quality reusable electrostatic filters for HVAC systems.
Flush and remove them free of collected dirt and soils monthly.
5.
Vacuum frequently before dirt becomes embedded in the carpet.
6.
Small particles can pass through inexpensive paper vacuum filter bags, so use a high-efficiency vacuum.
7.
Use quality vacuum equipment.
8.
Have a mat at your entrance door to clean shoes to reduce fine particles such as lead.
9.
Use mats to trap soil at entries to protect carpets and reduce the likelihood of particles becoming airborne.
10.
Eliminate tracking and debris by keeping the walkway and entries clean.
