How to Dry a TV That Has Gotten Windex in It
- 1). Disconnect the TV's electrical cable from the wall outlet immediately upon discovering a Windex spill.
- 2). Turn the TV screen toward a window where direct sunlight can warm the screen and gently dry out the set.
- 3). Set an electric fan to blow directly on the TV screen. Air movement hastens evaporation of the liquid Windex. Depending on the quantity of liquid involved, drying out the set could take a few hours to a full day. The active ingredients in Windex are ammonium hydroxide and isopropyl alcohol, both of which begin to evaporate on contact with air.
- 4). Dry the exterior of the screen with paper towels.
- 5). Plug in the TV power cord and turn on the set using the remote control. If the TV screen appears odd or if the component behaves erratically, such as making a telltale buzzing sound that indicates a short circuit, turn off the set with the remote control and unplug the power cord. Repairs by a trained technician may be necessary.
