    • 1). Get on the pit bike. Straddle the seat and make sure that your feet can touch the ground. Adjust mirrors so that you will be able to view vehicles behind you.

    • 2). Start up the pit bike. Put the key in the ignition and turn it forward to start the engine. Leave the engine running for five minutes before driving it.

    • 3). Start to drive the pit bike. Start in low gear and shift up when gaining speed. If the pit bike is an automatic then you don't have to worry about shifting.

    • 4). Keep steady power. Making turns can be tricky on a pit bike. If the bike has a shift, finish shifting before turning. Lean into the turn. On a right turn keep your right leg straight forward, left elbow up, and your butt towards the outside of the seat to enhance balance.

    • 5). Use the foot and hand brake when stopping. If the pit bike has a shift, make sure that you bring the shift down when stopping as well. When gaining speed be sure to sit up about 45 degrees and keep your elbows bent. As you go over bumps this will provide extra suspension to the bike.
