How to Cook Tenderloin Steak Under a Gas Broiler
Things You'll Need
Instructions
1Open the boiler compartment and take out the broiler pan. Turn on the broiler function so it can preheat for about 10 minutes. Line the bottom of the broiler pan with aluminum foil to keep cleanup simple.
2
Season the tenderloin steaks to your liking. Brush them with cooking oil or melted butter, and grease the broiling pan rack while you're at it. Pat the steaks with some salt and pepper or your favorite steak rub. A light coating of steak sauce works, too, if you don't mind masking the natural flavor of the meat a bit. Center the steaks on the broiler pan.
3
Insert the broiler pan into the broiler compartment. Adjust the height according to the oven manual's directions. For 1-inch-thick tenderloin steaks, position the pan about 3 inches below the heating element. Place steaks that are 1 1/2 inches to 3 inches thick about 5 inches below the broiler.
4
For 1-inch cuts, broil the tenderloin steaks for about 13 minutes to cook to medium-rare or about 15 minutes for medium. Turn them over once halfway through the estimated cooking time. Use a meat thermometer to confirm that the beef is cooked to the desired doneness. Remove the tenderloin steaks at 120 degrees Fahrenheit for rare, 125 degrees F for medium-rare or 130 degrees F for medium.
5
Take the steaks out of the oven and remove them from the broiler pan right away to avoid overcooking. Put them on a plate and let them rest for 10 minutes before serving or cutting into them. This allows them to finish cooking and for the juices inside to settle.
