Information on Decorating Cake Stands

    Wrapping Paper

    • Use wrapping paper to decorate cake stands so they match the color scheme of your cake. Measure the top surface of your stand and cut out a piece of wrapping paper in the same size and shape, then measure the sides and cut strips of paper to fit. Apply wrapping paper with double-sided tape and change it out to fit each cake. You can also use contact paper, although this will be harder to remove.

    Sweet Decor

    • Icing and edible decorations are another way to add some sweet decor to your cake stand. Use a stand that is slightly larger than your cake so that you have some surface to put the icing on. For example, you could place a layer of cupcakes close together on a stand, then draw a circle around the cluster with some buttercream frosting using a decorative frosting tip. You could also add frosting flowers, stars or letters.

    Floral Decor

    • Use fake flowers and garland to add a touch of nature. Purchase floral garland and wrap it around the base of your cake stand. Cut flower buds from fake flowers and tape them randomly to the edges of your cake stand or leave a small amount of stem and tuck them underneath the cake, letting that hold the flowers in place.

    Painting

    • Acrylic latex paints adhere well to most mediums, including glass, wood and metal. Allow to dry before spraying a layer of shellac sealant; let dry for a glossy finish. For safety's sake never put bare cakes on a painted stand. Leave cakes and pies in pans or cut some clear wax paper or wrap to line the stand. For cupcakes leave them in their paper or foil cupcake cups.
